COURT OF APPEAL RULES (AGAIN) ON EMPLOYMENT STATUS – PROFESSIONAL GAME MATCH OFFICIALS LTD

Jonathan Peacock 11 New Square

The Court of Appeal has handed down judgment in the long-running dispute over the status of football referees.  The Court ruled that there must be “sufficient mutuality” in order for there to be an employment contract and a “framework of control” and remitted the case to the FTT for the FTT to consider its ruling again.

Jonathan Peacock QC acted for PGMOL, together with Georgia Hicks of Devereux Chambers. The decision can be seen here.
