Referees win in FTT, again

Jonathan Peacock 11 New Square

After extra, extra, time, the FTT has allowed the appeal of PGMOL in the latest, and perhaps last, hearing of the dispute over the tax treatment of part-time referees.  The case started in the FTT, went to the Upper Tribunal, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court before returning for further consideration in the FTT.  The tribunal has now concluded, after an exhaustive analysis, that the referees are not employees but, instead, independent contractors engaged on a game-by-game basis. Jonathan Peacock KC acted for PGMOL, with Georgia Hicks of Devereux Chambers.

The decision can be found here.
